I had a chance to Watch Alt-J live when they were in Singapore back in 2013 during the Laneway Festival. At that time, I had heard a little bit of them, the hype that surrounded them and couldn’t understand why they were acclaimed. So I skipped their performance and had lunch with my friends instead. After the festival, I gave them another chance and the regret I felt was horrible. I loved their sound and the unique haunting voice of Joe Newman had me the moment he sang Tessellate.

So imagine my delight when I found out that they released a new single called Hunger of the Pine off their upcoming album This is All Yours.

Starting off sombre and sparse, it is unlike their first album. It was a slight disappointment at first but it slowly grows on you. As the song was hitting its stride, Miley Cyrus became the supporting vocals in the background, a sample taken from 4X4 from her Bangerz album. Truth be told, it works though I can’t really see how it fits in the context of the song. Regardless, if you are a fan of Alt-J, you have to take a listen.
